how it works

• The map starts under fog. Places you travel through are uncovered and stay that way.
• There are three tile sizes: micro (streets), minor (neighborhoods) and major (regions). One location fix unlocks all three.
• With Always location access, tiles unlock in the background while the phone is in your pocket.
• The first time you set foot in a country, its flag lights on the countries page.
• Tile Replay plays your tiles back in the order you found them, by date or by area, and can record the result.

common questions

I went somewhere and no tiles unlocked. Check Settings › Surveyor-64 › Location: it should be Always, with Precise Location on. With "While Using", tiles only unlock when the app is open.

Tiles didn't unlock on a flight or a fast train. That's intended. Tiles unlock at the speed of roads and trails, from a position the phone is confident about. Above about 80 mph, at altitude, or with a poor GPS fix, nothing unlocks.

I have a trail of tiles from an old flight. Open the menu, go to Data Management and choose Remove Flight Cells. It shows a preview on the map and removes them only when you confirm.

The Replay button is grayed out. The replay needs more memory than some older iPhones have, so it is switched off there to keep the app stable. Your tiles are tracked as usual.

How do I move my map to a new phone? Data Management › export writes your whole map to a file. On the new phone, import that file. Save it somewhere you control, such as iCloud Drive.

How do I add places I went before I had the app? Entry Mode lets you add tiles by hand. You choose whether hand-entered tiles count toward your statistics.

I bought PRO and the app shows the free tier. Open Settings in the app and choose Restore Purchases. Purchases follow your Apple Account.

How do I cancel a subscription? iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Surveyor-64. Deleting the app does not cancel it.

How do I add a friend? Share your six-letter invite code from the leaderboards panel, or enter theirs. Friends see your tile counts, not your map.
